Keep calm, relax, and do your personal best!
Absences and make up work: When a student is absent, they are responsible for getting the notes from a peer, so that they are ready to participate in class. They need to get the notes in a timely fashion, so that they can ask me for help if they are confused on the missed material. They need to make up the assignment the night after they return to school for full credit (some exclusions apply).
Homework: The most important objective is that maximum effort is used when completing all assignments for ELA. It is crucial for students to have some genre of ELA homework every night: Reading, Writing, Word practice. Homework point values will vary based on the assignment. Students will be aware of the point value when the assignment is given. For each day an assignment is late, they will lose points for that grade and also 1 point off of their daily grade for being unprepared. If a redo is given, the child has one day to redo the assignment and points will be adjusted accordingly.
Behavior: My expectation is that all students follow the Queen of Heaven Discipline policy as well as the policy given at the start of the year in my room. MY discipline policy is based on an understanding of mutual respect. If there are individual difficulties, I will work closely with parents and students to ensure that the learning environment continues to be a positive place for everyone.
In case a poor choice is made, the following steps will be taken:
o A nonverbal warning (i.e. – post it note or glance, tap of desk)
o Verbal Warning / Conversation in the hall way away from peers as well as an email/phone call from the teacher
o Detention
